A Vision for Central Square

Our vision for a new Central Square will create the following benefits:

• Economic Growth and Job Creation. Revitalizing downtown means making it a better place for businesses, which helps create more jobs and makes the local economy grow. When owners fix up old buildings, new businesses can move in, bring more customers to town, and earn more money.

• Cultural and Community Development. When we make Central Square and the surrounding areas better, we're keeping the town's history and culture alive. Restoring the old Town Hall will mean more cultural events, exhibits, public art, farmers’ markets, and festivals that everyone can enjoy. It will also make more people want to visit our town instead of simply passing through.

• Smart Growth. Instead of building new things in places that don't have roads and other required infrastructure, we can encourage use of underutilized existing spaces. This helps protect existing open space and farmland. By connecting these places to Central Square with sidewalks and bike lanes, we can make it easier for people to walk, bike, and use future public transportation, which helps reduce traffic and pollution.
